Multi-generational travel is extremely important in sustaining family values. Vacationing is an opportunity to let loose and enjoy life without the monotonous task associated with daily living. Being able to create memories not just with your children but with your parents is truly a blessing. Being able to cherish these moments together is what life is all about. Having the opportunity to vacation with my parents is something that I’ve dreamed of all of my childhood. Literally, as a child, I remember praying for a sacred time away from our normal routine of life, just to be with my parents and my siblings as a whole. Those times seem as if it never manifested.
There were many times that I prayed, unfortunately, I just never seen it happen. Until now sort of. We now have the opportunity to vacation together as a family and build memories together. This simply reminds me of the goodness of God and how he is able to create all things new. I am reminded that there is a time for everything. For everything, there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3 NLT
Although, I did not have the memories as a child vacationing with my parents, I have them now as an adult. Not only do I have the blessing of this, but I also get to share this with my children. They now are able to acquire these memories of vacationing with their grandparents. These are the blessings that I am counting. I am forever thankful for the time that we are living in.
I am thankful that we have the opportunity to be a blessing to my parents. The blessing of being able to fund their vacation lifestyle which allows them to be able to create these memories with their grandchildren.
Multi-generational vacationing is beneficial to the whole family. Grandparents, parents, and children have the opportunity to create memories together as a whole. My husband and I surely appreciate it because we get to spend time with our parents and our children at the same time. Occasionally, my husband and I can squeeze a date night in one of the nights on vacation, while our parents watch our children. Therefore, each generation have the opportunity to create their own set of memories.
It is truly a blessing to be able to vacation with your grandparents and being able to share precious moments together. These are typically moments that you can never get back again. I truly encouraged multi-generational traveling for multiple reasons. I will break down a few of the most important reasons why we absolutely prefer multi-generational vacationing at least twice a year.
5 Reasons Why Multi-generational Vacationing is Beneficial:
1: Quality Time-
Vacationing allows a designated time set aside to spend with the ones that you love most. Often times parents and grandparents typically live in different states. Therefore, having this vacation time allows for family to travel to be together in one place at the same time. Families are able to engage and interact with each other which may be different from their normal daily routine. They are able to reminisce on time spent together while creating new experiences.
2: Multi-generational Bond Building-
Traveling with different generations allows for the older generation to interact with the younger generation. The older generation is able to share memories of how they used to do things with the newer generation a family and vice versa. For example, on vacation our children were able to show our parents how to text and set up an Instagram account. There was also able to share the latest social media trends. My daughter was able to show my mother all of her tricks with Play-Doh. In my opinion, it keeps the older generation connected with the younger generation. The younger generation is able to keep the older generation tied into the new millennium.
3: Extra Set of Adults-
Having our parents travel with us is truly a benefit to us. In our case, having five children to two of us, leaves the ratio uneven. In our household is at 2 to 5 ratio. Two parents to five children. Therefore, having an extra set of hands that can help out is truly appreciated on vacation. I typically cook every day on vacation because it keeps the cost of dining out down. Truly, we save so much money cooking our food rather than dining out at restaurants. Our money can be saved for attractions not food. My mother is such a great help. She wakes up relatively early and begins breakfast on most days. Sometimes, she’ll ask me to cook breakfast but mostly she cooks breakfast and we’ll switch off for lunch and dinner.
4: Shared Memories-
Vacation together as a multi-generational family allows for unique memories to be made. Our children have quite a vivid memory. They remember the most obscene experiences with their grandparents. It is truly amazing how much they actually remember. They’ll typically talk about their memories and reminisce on it during the holidays with other family members. Often times, my parents have a day and take our children out with just them, and build new memories together. This is awesome because children are able to acquire unique memories with their grandparents.
5: New Found Perspective-
Children are able to see life from a new perspective from gaining closeness to their grandparents. Sometimes is difficult for children to gain closeness with their grandparents. Typically, grandparents are on a different wave then children. Most grandparents are considered mean and bitter. Therefore, it makes it difficult for children to gravitate towards their grandparents. However, spin in this unique time together on vacation for a couple days or a week at a time allows children to build a unique closeness while gaining a new perspective on their relationship with their grandparents.
If you’re on the fence, and you’re second-guessing whether or not you should take your parents on vacation with you, I totally recommend it. It will absolutely change your life. It will allow your children to be able to gain many new experiences on life itself.
