While we were hosted for our visit to Aspen, Colorado, all my opinions are my own.
We finally did it! A childhood dream of mine was always to visit Aspen, Colorado. I was actually able to visit with my entire family of 7. Let me just tell you, it was everything I expected, and more!
Since we’ve moved from New York, one of our favorite things to do every winter season is to visit a cold destination. You can understand that because we don’t get much cold weather living in Florida.
This was our family’s first time visiting Aspen, Colorado.
In this guide, I’m going to share some of the amazing dining places that we ate at. I will also share some of the amazing family activities that we experience. I will also share some of the amazing hotels that I recommend you stay in if you’re visiting Aspen, Colorado with children.
We visited Aspen, Colorado right at the beginning of the season. Therefore, we missed the large crowds of travelers visiting for the ultimate skiing season.
I was especially excited about this because I was traveling with my family that included five children and things can get pretty busy for us. Therefore, we were able to experience Aspen without the large crowds which was a plus for me.
Family-Friendly Activities in Aspen, Colorado
We honestly didn’t go to Aspen to ski, we wanted to explore other family-friendly activities available. I know that’s pretty funny because Aspen is probably the most popular destination for skiing during the winter season. However, during the time that we visited it was right at the beginning of the season. Therefore, Buttermilk Ski Resort didn’t open its slopes just yet for the season. They are the most beginner-friendly ski resort in town.
However, there are many more things to do for families other than skiing. Ice-skating was one of those options. We went to the CP Burger Ice-Skating rink right in town which was an amazing experience for our children. It’s in a great location right next to the Aspen Mountain ski resort and it’s also the only outdoor ice rink in Aspen.
Snowmobiling in Aspen
We also explored snowmobiling in Aspen! How amazing is this? We went to T-lazy-7 Ranch and Snowmobile to explore their Klondike cabin lunch tour. We went with our 5 children and it was such a nice experience. We went to explore The White River National Forest during a 2 1/2 -3 hour lunch tour. Our lunch included some of the best burgers we have ever eaten, chips, cookies, and a drink. The lunch tour made stops throughout and our children were able to enjoy hot chocolate along the way.
We went at the beginning of the season where it was actually snowing. It actually was the first snowfall of the season during our tour. Unfortunately, my littlest ones couldn’t finish the tour because of the weather conditions. It was entirely too cold for them. But my other older ones did and they had a blast! I do recommend if you are going to dress in layers! Be sure to have on waterproof snow pants, shoes, mittens, hats, and all of the works! Unfortunately, this was our first time, and some of us experienced frostbites on our legs. It wasn’t horrible but it was definitely something to pay attention to and be aware of in the future.
Gondola Ride Sightseeing
We took an amazing sightseeing ride on the Gondola at the Aspen Ski Resort. It was the most scenic ride we had ever taken. I truly recommend you try this if you have children. Even if your plan is not to go skiing, it’s a great experience. We also went to the Aspen Art Museum and enjoyed some of their amazing Art Exhibits.
Well, we didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the Aspen Recreation Center we are definitely putting that on our list for the next time we visit.
