Spread the love

The Beach is where we spend most of our vacation time as a family.

Between the waves kissing the shore and the sand in between your toes, we can’t get enough of it. Everyone knows it, hands down my favorite place to vacation is at the beach!

I am a city girl at heart however, I dream of going to the most beautiful beaches in the world. Before we move to Florida, I fell in love with the New England beaches. Yes, Maine beaches are absolutely gorgeous. We traveled there with our children many times. In fact, our children have grown a love for beaches as well since going to Maine beaches.

It was Labor Day weekend as well as my birthday approaching. We needed to book a last-minute family getaway. Not sure where to begin, I started searching on Tripadvisor. I searched for getaways in a 5-hour radius. We like to use our car when traveling locally within a 6-hour radius because we typically find that it is more cost-efficient for our growing size family.

I came across a ton of great beach getaways in Maine, However, we’ve never visited Maine and didn’t know exactly what city in Maine to visit. Therefore, after talking to a couple of coworkers, they suggested that we go to the beach located in Ogunquit, Maine. Seriously, my coworkers bragged about this beach so much so, that I felt like that we just had to check it out for ourselves.

I started my research on Ogunquit Maine and found some great history in this place. First, this place is named after an Indian Tribe and the name “Ogunquit” literally means Beautiful Place by The Sea. After learning this, I really became intrigued! This place has 3.5 miles of white sandy beaches. Ogunquit is known for its scenic coast, amazing art galleries, fantastic shopping, and unbelievable seafood dining. Ogunquit has consistently ranked as one of the best vacation spots on the Southern Maine Coast.

I’ve learned that the best times to visit this beach is in the fall months of September and October. I felt it was my winning season as my birthday falls in the month of September. Ogunquit has amazing trolley rides for your children. We thought this would make an incredible experience for our young children.

After planning vacations, I found that I had no luck when it came to finding a great place to stay in Ogunquit Maine.

Therefore, I postpone the vacation off about four times. However, it was my birthday weekend which is Labor Day weekend and we were looking for a beach to go to. I did some last-minute planning and found a Hilton near Portland, Maine. It was about a 40-minute drive to the beach but it was worth it. So we made it work.

First, we stayed at the Hilton Homewood Suites which was located in Portland Maine.

We stayed there one night and we had dinner at one of the local restaurants. Immediately we fell in love with the city and the atmosphere. However, the next day, the beach was on our itinerary. We were geared up and packed up to go to the beach. Once we got there we absolutely fell in love with the beach.

Immediately my husband knew that we were going to stay there for the remainder of the weekend. Not knowing where we were going to stay was an issue. However, after talking to a couple of locals they gave us some tips on where we could have stayed. We found a great condo-like Hotel, Innseason Resorts The Falls At Ogunquit. At this resort, we booked two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen for just $175 a night. This was absolutely perfect for us.

That’s one thing about my husband and I, we are very spontaneous.

At times I find myself wanting to plan everything out but that’s just not how our life goes. We’re kind of like easy-going wherever the wind takes us kind of folks. That’s how we’re able to get such great deals because we just go with the flow.
Disclaimer: I “type A bougie” when it comes to hotels and I don’t stay in any kind of hotel room. However, we managed to stay in pretty good places.

We stayed at the beach and watched our children play in the sand and build sandcastles.

After a couple of hours of that, we went to change and ate dinner at the #1 local restaurant in the area Ogunquit Beach Lobster House. Later on, we also went grocery shopping and picked up some breakfast and lunch items. We did this so that we were able to cook breakfast for children in the morning and pack sandwiches for the beach.

We spent the day at the beach soaking up the sun and created new memories. We met some great locals and had some amazing conversations. Ogunquit Beach is one of our favorite places to go as a family.

The Breakdown of The Expenses:

Overall, this was another frugal family trip that we’d enjoyed. We spent less than $1,000 on this birthday/ Labor Day weekend trip. Transportation costs us roughly about $200 round trip. Our lodging accommodation costs roughly $500 for 4 nights. We spent roughly about $300 on dining and grocery items.

Again, vacationing is doable. Of course, you have to have some type of funding for a vacation trip. However, you do not have to break the bank in order to vacation. I strongly recommend you work your way up to those bigger trips where you’re going to all-inclusive locations. Enjoy your road trips especially when your children are younger.

Explore Ogunquit, Maine, and enjoy the New England lifestyle. Visit the beach for some great family fun and create new memories as we did. Our children still talk about this awesomely amazing trip. Children really live healthier lives when they get to experience traveling at a young age. Traveling truly sets the foundation for raising children to be culturally diverse.
